Viewers in Alaska and Maine will be able to view this partial solar eclipse. Van Buren Maine located on the Canadian/US border will see only a smidgen of the Moon passing in front of the Sun (see below). That nip equals out to 0.02% obscuration at 6:45pm EDT! Wow!

On the other side of the states in Fairbanks Alaska, things get a little better. Obscuration of the Sun goes all the way up to 0.76% at 12:09pm AKDT.

The most you can see of this June partial eclipse of the sun from the states will be in Barrow Alaska. The Moon will cover 9.32% of the Sun at 12:05pm AKDT... now we're talking!

Don't fret if you are not seeing any moon/sun action this year. Why? Because you can mark your calendar for next year for a rousing good annular eclipse of the sun. That date will be May 20, 2012. The western half of the US will get to see it. May is a good time to go on a vacation... don't you think?
